Dry needling is a unique treatment technique for any acute or chronic pain from myofascial origin associated with trigger points. Allegedly 80% of the pain in our body comes from the muscles and muscle fascia. Trigger points are hyperirritable spots located in a taut band of skeletal muscle. It is an effective therapy to treat muscular tension and spasm and pain which commonly accompanies conditions such as arthritis, nerve irritation, muscular strain, ligament strains and herniated discs.
It is called “Dry” Needling because there is no solution injected as with a hypodermic needle during a flu shot. It involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the region of a "Trigger Point'. The aim of Dry Needling is to achieve a local twitch response to release muscle tension and pain.
